This course will provide a work-based entry route into Technical Theatre and Performing Arts, equipping you with the vital skills needed behind the scenes. These skills will be developed in aspects of either lighting, sound or stage. It has been designed to allow learners to obtain and then demonstrate the knowledge to work within the Technical Theatre support industry. 

Route Detail

On the Lighting pathway you could train as an assistant electrician, board/console operator, followspot operator or maintenance technician. On the Sound pathway you will train as an assistant sound technician. Those taking the Stage pathway will train as stage technicians or flymen. Technicians have to handle equipment and be prepared to work at heights and in cramped conditions.

Entry Requirements

While there are no formal entry requirements for this qualification, you should have a keen interest in working in Technical Theatre. Applicants must be able to work effectively in a team and be prepared for both shift work and travel. Prior experience is not necessary, but it is useful and should be supported by a portfolio of evidence.
