NCCI student takes on the iconic MoonWalk London challenge!

National College Creative Industries student, Tom Mylchreest (17) from Wickford, Essex took on the challenge of a lifetime when he took part in the MoonWalk London on Saturday 11th May.

Completing the MoonWalk is an extraordinary achievement as not only was Tom power walking 26.2 miles, through the night, he was also wearing a dayglo pink decorated bra and tutu to show his support for the cause. Tom decided to undertake the walk following a breast cancer diagnosis in his immediate family. He took on the challenge with close family friend, Jo Childs, and together they joined forces to raise as much money as possible – already they have jointly raised over £2,400.

In its 22nd year, The MoonWalk London, organised by breast cancer charity Walk the Walk, has to date raised almost £97 million. Funds are currently granted to research into secondary cancers and supporting those with cancer, with the growing demands for emotional and physical support.

After a month of practice walks in preparation for the event, Tom found the event gruelling and exhausting. He said: “It was great to see so many people uniting in the walk to fight against breast cancer. I was so impressed that people with breast cancer and undergoing treatment were also there taking part. By the end of the walk, I was physically exhausted but extremely proud to have taken part and raised so much money for this important cause.
