Creative Venue Technician - Advanced

Technical Production

Operating under the direction and supervision of a production arts technical management team, Creative Venue Technicians (CVTs) provide technical support for the construction, rehearsal, presentation and removal of a live performance, for audience or camera. CVTs play an active role in the technical operation across a variety of established creative venues, for example, theatres, arts centres and broadcast studios.

Route Detail

CVTs will be multi-skilled across a wide range of technical disciplines and possess a broad level of knowledge relevant to the diverse environment in which they operate. CVTs will be competent in lighting, audio, video and building services related to the performance arts and apply them to their resident premises and / or production.

Entry Requirements

While there are no formal entry requirements for this qualification, you should have a keen interest in working in this field. Applicants must be able to work effectively in a team and be prepared for both shift work and travel. Prior experience is not necessary, but it is useful and should be supported by a portfolio of evidence.

Venue Technician

Operating under the direction of the Technical Management Team, a Venue Technician will provide support for the construction, rehearsal, presentation and removal of equipment for a live performance.

Theatre Technician

Operating under the direction of the Technical Management Team, a Theatre Technician will provide support for the construction, rehearsal, presentation and removal of equipment for a live performance.

Stage Technician

A Stage Technician assists with setting up the stage for a live performance. They are responsible for setting up, dismantling and operating equipment safely.

Lighting Technician

A Lighting Technician works with the Lighting Designer and the Director to plan and facilitate the lighting requirements for a live performance or event. If necessary they will source any special lighting equipment for a show.

Sound Technician

A Sound Technician works with the Sound Designer and the Director to plan and facilitate the audio requirements for a live performance or event, and if necessary they will source any special audio equipment for a show.

Video Technician

Operating under the direction of the Technical Management Team, a Video Technician will provide video support for a venue and during live performances.

Automation Technician

Operating under the direction of the Technical Management Team, an Automation Technician will provide specialist support for the constriction, rehearsal, presentation and removal of mechanised equipment for a live performance.
